The LEAGUE February Service Event
On a chilly Saturday morning, top LEAGUE students from Indiana, Michigan and Texas who were top winners of The Drive came together in New York City to participate in our February Service Event. Students, Coaches, parents and LEAGUE staff made their way over to Kateri Residence, a New York City nursing home and rehabilitation center. At Kateri Residence, students met with seniors from the long-term living facility. They participated in an art-and -crafts project together entitled “Will You Be My Valentine?” The students painted door hangers for the seniors to keep as a Valentine and hang on their room door or wheelchair handles. Although in the very beginning there was a nervous feeling in the air, a few minutes into meeting, students and seniors were talking about all sorts of things like favorite colors, sports and where they grew up. The seniors were very happy with their Valentines, but more importantly, they were happy to spend time with their visitors. As a resident was being wheeled out, she said “Thank you. I will never forget this.” A parent also shared that his son’s favorite part of the New York trip, including all of the sightseeing, was the time spent at the nursing home. A great time was had by all who participated. |
