The Drive

November 4-25

Event Focus
Each community has its own specific challenges related to poverty. For The Drive students create and implement a plan to address issues related to poverty, hunger and homelessness in their community by conducting a collection drive to provide needed goods to a chosen recipient organization in their community. Student interest and community need will determine the items that will be collected. A food drive is suggested, but toys, clothes, or other items may be determined to be more appropriate and selected by the class or school.

Scoring

Points are based on the weight of the food, and the amount of clothes collected. This metric represents the approximate value of retail food per pound used by food banks in the United States, and the average value of an item of clothing, acknowledged by the IRS.

  • $1 raised = 1 point
  • 1 hr=7 points
  • 1 lb of food=1.5 points
  • 1 article of clothing=5 points
* Approximates federal minimum wage.
